Prescribed Burning
lush native grasses and habitat rise from the ashes
This year, we have selected an additional 600+ acres on the farm and executed a prescribed burn at the beginning of the spring.
patches of pearl millet and sorghum is the perfect habitat to hold coveys.
In keeping with our desire to enhance quail habitat and provide ongoing improvements for a better hunting experience, The Webb Farm will open an additional hunting course with the advent of the fall 2021 season.
The Homeplace, as we have so lovingly dubbed the new course, will include a 120 acre tract of land homesteaded sometime between 1870 and 1880 by Archibald Brooks Webb, Bill’s Great Grandfather.
Our habitat management program designed to both entice a larger natural quail population and encourage strong covey locations, is reaping the benefits of this process. Last season we saw a substantial increase in native grasses, plants and their corresponding seeds that helped to sustain our quail population on the property throughout the entire season. In an effort to further refine and enhance our quail habitat, the farm is on a three-year burn rotation.

Scorched land transforms into a bounty for the quail
Our habitat management program designed to both entice a larger natural quail population and encourage strong covey locations, is reaping the benefits of this process. Last season we saw a substantial increase in native grasses, plants and their corresponding seeds that helped to sustain our quail population on the property throughout the entire season. In an effort to further refine and enhance our quail habitat, the farm is on a three-year burn rotation. We continue to evolve our prescribed burn program.
The evidence is clear, as our guests were treated over and over to covey’s of 20, 30 and 40+ hard charging, high flying quail throughout the season. Come and see for yourself how the scorched land is providing an unbelievable bounty of lush plants and grasses that are both a beauty to behold and an incredible source of food and cover for our quail.
