Twenty Years and Counting
It’s here! The days are getting shorter, the night air brings a chill, and The Webb Farm has officially kicked off its 20th season!
Where in the world did the time go! I can remember starting off in January 2005 like it was yesterday. Wade Meacham was the first guide, and when the group came in at the end of the hunt, everyone pitched in and cleaned the birds to send home with the guests.
The late Tom Bowman, a fine man who had a successful optometry practice in Burlington, was our first hunter. I don’t believe the Lodge was completed, and Debbie fed him at the kitchen table in our home. I really had no idea that when this started, it would grow into what it has become today.
Those of you who have hunted with us all these years have seen a lot of nice changes. We have constantly worked and improved the cover on all of the courses. That in itself has been amazing to see the native grasses take over.
You saw us add 4 bedrooms in 2011 fondly referred to as “The Roost, and the additional 2 bedrooms and common area out in The Stable. The Firepit was a popular add.
We purchased “The Hartman Place” on the south end of the Farm and timbered, burned and mowed that parcel for several years to get it into good hunting shape. And then we added “The Wade Place” which is our only non-contiguous hunting area, which has really developed into a beautiful course of native grasses in an open pine canopy. It is one of my favorite places to hunt as it was a farm I hunted in my youth with my late friend Willie McRae, who owned the farm and was owner of Charleston’s Boone Hall Plantation.
We strive to improve your experience here each and every year, and Debbie and I and staff believe this season will not disappoint either. We’re rolling now!
What I can tell you though after 20 years that I really treasure the friendships made. You have all been so kind to us and it is most appreciated. Boy have we had some laughs around the fire and in the bar. There have been some tall stories told as well. All in fun.
I’ve thought about all of this and decided that one way to celebrate this season is to offer special hunting opportunities for all of our guests at certain times of the season. I’m talking sweetheart deals, great value! Stay tuned as we roll this out for your consideration. It will be opportunities you just cant pass up!
And once again, Debbie and I and staff say “Thank You” for your unwavering support. The first twenty years have been a blast! Can’t wait to see how the 30th anniversary plays out!
With heartfelt thanks for being part of The Webb Farm family,
Bill and Debbie
